The Cane Press

That's Linda. No, on the left--that's ME, you weirdo. Linda's the Crisis Corps Volunteer who commissioned the first cane press to be made. The second one belongs to the ZP, and everyone I talk to about it says "Oh, man, that's a good idea." Wish it was my idea. Oh well. I did invent peanut butter, after all.

This little beauty will be used, probably by a group of women from the village, to make fresh sugar cane juice to be sold on the street--with a percentage of the profits also going to the Kuunika Foundsation Orphanage. I think I'll require them to draw up a business plan, and eventually pay the cost of the press back with their profits, so another one can be bought with the money, making this deal a sort of franchise.

Thanks to Brett (two T's) from Chicago, Norma from Twin Falls, Ryan and Amie from Lynden (Washington), and The General Fund (we were about $14 short so we dipped into the reserve).

If you were wondering, sugar cane juice has a surprisingly light, refreshing taste that's vaguely floral and not too sweet. It's best when spiked with lemon, lime, or ginger.

hey man, i'm glad you put a picture of yourself on there too. you should do it more often. you're looking good, and i hope the visa thing worked itself out. Keep doing what you're doing, you're an inspiration for us all.

Nick thinks you're hot. Nick, you're married now, you can't let your animal instincts control you.

Adam, awesome that you're able to post a few pics now and again. The cane press is pretty cool, hope the venture takes hold and then grows. Nothing looks better on a resume than "Founder of Malawian cane juice industry (sixth most profitable industry in Malawi)" That kind of thing opens lots of doors. Best of luck with your visa troubles, but if they are such fools that they would throw YOU out, with everything you're doing to help people around you, then the world truly is going to Ms. Helena Handbasquet. Yeah.

Love the picture with you and Linda. Nice to put a face with her name since you work with her a lot. Quite a little invention that you have there. I love the idea that the recipients would pay for it from profits so another could be built and used and on and on.

Glad your Visa problems were solved. You should see your dad with the hair on his face. Pastor Brian referred to him Sunday as having a Palestinian look! What a trip they had.

You're looking more and more like BONO. It must mean that you're doing altruistic deeds... or cutt'n some serious soft rock tracks with trite lyrics.
